New Orleans Jazz Fest

I am very happy to have been in New Orleans for the Jazz Festival. Share the music with different friends from all around the world. This was a great moment for my life, from the day I leave my family in Tampa to go to New Orleans. On my way from home to the airport there was a lot of happiness. I just carrying my talking drum in my hand, anywhere I went I just played my drum and made people happy. I even played for the security people at the Tampa airport!

When I finally arrived to New Orleans, I felt like I was in a dream. There was so much happiness in this city -
everyone was smiling and sharing. Everywhere I went people were playing music, inside and outside - the spirit of Africa was there, with this beautiful city and beautiful weather, and beautiful people. I felt like this is just one world with one love.
I was very happy to meet Ben Harper after his performance and a lot of different musicians. It was great to play with my old friend Cheick Diabate, we really had a good time, I am so happy.

Now I am back home with my wife and happy to see her and our boys. I realize today in my life, it is a new day and a new world. I have a chance to bring this world together for just one thing - music. In New Orleans, I see people volunteering, cleaning garbage, organizing, working together for music. Everyone is included, old, young, even children, when music brings people together it's like we are all the same - there is no age, just love, peace, patience, understanding, communication. Music makes the world better. Always.

Yum Yum Drums visits Pinellas Prep School

Today was a very good day to be with all those children learning about African Culture.
It wasn't only good for the reason I go to teach them but because these children are learning the story of Sundiata Keita. It makes me happy to see the rest of the world learning about African culture, music, art, dancing. It really touched me a lot. I am so happy to share that with these kids. Today was one of the beautiful day to meet bright children who were educated, present, very interesting. They were so happy and excited to see the Griot come to their school to tell the story and play the drums. We had a very good time and blessing. I was very touched for one of the children who just come and talk to me like he know me for years and years and say, "Baye I love you". This is one of the most beautiful things in the world. I wish every day everyone can be happy like that. To be happy and around 300 children singing, dancing, like Hakuna Matata - no worries, no problems. And also the great people who are teaching - they are so generous and respectful. I am thankful they gave me, Baye Griot, the chance to tell my story. To them I say Thank you so much and I love to go back to see you again. There was a moment when I feel like we are living this world and we are all one and the same, dancing, jumping. Another best moment was taking the break and talking to Greg (the music teacher at the school who was the one to introduce me to this school) There were about 10 of his students on break and we sat and started to jam - guitars, keyboards, drumkits... it was so exciting! It was beautiful to see them inspired by music, the music brings people together, doesn't matter who you are and where you are from. I thank the school and my love Annette to share this moment with me and thank you for your support. A big kiss . Peace and Love the Griot Baye Kouyate.
So Happy. Hakuna Matata. Good night.

I am so happy

I just got married on Tuesday!  The day of my wedding we had about 20 close friends near us, including my good friends Bill Jensen and Margrit Lewczuk. The day of my wedding change a lot my life, I think it was one of the best moments of my life. I'm so inspired every day - I see a difference that is a good sign, my wife is so connected with me. I believe someday that all the good she has done for me will one day come back to her. This is just the beginning.  A lot of good things are coming. We just need to believe.

My song Danama is one of 5 finalist  for the Independent Music Awards World.Fusion Song Category.  My wish is to be the winner and share that happiness with the people I love. We'll find out by the end of the year.... I am so excited, inspired, feeling so powerful and so happy with my new life.

I wish the best for you....  I am working hard ... writing three new songs...... I hope to have ready for our Brooklyn wedding bash December 31st !
